According to reports, Chelsea has chosen to focus on Ajax wonderkid defender Jorrel Hato this summer instead of Riccardo Calafiori. Hato has reportedly been tracked by teams like Arsenal and Real Madrid, and the Blues have reportedly discussed him internally several times in transfer talks, according to Team Talk.
Given Arsenal’s improvement with Calafiori, Chelsea would be wise to consider a player with Hato’s versatility who can play left- or center-back to a high caliber. Even though the Eredivisie powerhouses have a history of selling their best young players to Europe’s top, it might not be easy to pry the young Dutchman away from Ajax.
Chelsea switch focus to highly-rated Arsenal & Real Madrid transfer target
The North London team has had its eye on the teenage defensive prodigy for a few months, considering him a long-term central defensive option. Real Madrid’s interest in Jorrel Hato, meanwhile, makes sense. In anticipation of the summer transfer window, the Merengues have been searching the market for a young center-back, as Nacho is departing as a free agent.
It’s unclear how feasible this transaction is for Chelsea given that Fabrizio Romano also revealed that Hato was being considered by Arsenal but that Ajax wants to keep him for another season. After losing the fight to recruit Riccardo Calafiori to their fellow London club, the Blues have turned their attention to the teenage defensive revelation. Hato has therefore become a viable possibility for Chelsea to take into account.
