The Blues had two bids rejected before finding success in their third attempt. talkSPORT claims that the deal is worth around £18 million. Mendy had agreed personal terms prior to his transfer fee getting agreed on. The Senegal international is keen to join Frank Lampard’s project at Stamford Bridge and challenge for a starting role right away.
Lampard had lost faith in Kepa Arrizibalaga last season itself even after giving him a fresh opportunity to impress when he first took over. A string of horrible errors in goal has forced Lampard to look for replacement signings right away.
Even with Chelsea’s heavy expenditure on the team’s attack this summer, they have not ignored the improvements needed in defence. Bringing in Ben Chilwell was an ideal way to secure the left-back spot for years to come. Now, Mendy could be their starting keeper if he manages to adapt to the Premier League quick enough.
