Chelsea on the verge of completing their 7th summer signing.

According to reports, Frank Lampard is on the market for a new goalkeeper after a horrendous season by Kepa Arrizabalaga and the Blues are apparently closer in making a deal with the Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

Two years ago, Kepa Arrizabalga arrived at Stamford Bridge from Athletic Bilbao for £71.6million which is a world-record fee for a goalkeeper but the Spaniard failed to live up to his price tag.

Chelsea are looking to offload the 25-year old this summer but no club would be able to meet his valuation nor his salary.

Chelsea have offered £25m plus add-ons for Mendy having their initial bid of £14m get rejected by the club.

Technical director Petr Cech who played for Rennes before moving to Stamford Bridge is an admirer of the Senegal international and he has been tasked with finding a new goalkeeper.

“Kepa struggled last season, that is unquestionable,” Cech said.

“But the club invested in him and gave him a long-term contract because they believe he has the qualities and attributes to be successful.

“Additions will be made to the squad, perhaps even in goal, and this is what is being discussed now.

“But nobody is giving up on Kepa and we all hope he has a great future.”

If the deal with Mendy goes through, the club would have spent above £250m in this window alone.
