According to the latest reports, Chelsea are close to finalizing £50 million deal for Ben Chilwell.
The London Evening Standard understands that the Foxes have agreed to lower their asking price of £80 million. Frank Lampard badly wants to sign a left-back and had his sights set on the 23-year-old for quite some time now.
With the worldwide pandemic taking a financial hit on all football institutions, Leicester have caved on their demands as well. They realized almost nobody is willing to meet their valuation of Chilwell and this is the most they will ever get out of him right now. While Chilwell is a quality fullback, he is still not a finished product.
Chelsea had shortlisted the Englishman for almost a year now with several other alternatives in mind. With Chilwell, they will get a Premier League-proven talent and one who has a future to grow into this Chelsea side. At 23, he is still young, fitting in well with the brand of football Lampard is trying to establish at Stamford Bridge.
Fans will be a bit thrown if a deal for Chilwell gets announced before that of Kai Havertz, a player they have been close to getting for months now.
