After suffering a hamstring injury, Chelsea captain Reece James has resumed working out with his teammates. The England international defender developed the problem after the team’s preseason tour of the United States, and he hasn’t played yet this season. With very mild drills, he has been gradually regaining his fitness; however, a small setback several weeks ago has delayed his return.
The timing of his return to the starting lineup is still unknown because head coach Enzo Maresca has used Wesley Fofana and Axel Disasi in addition to Malo Gusto, who has spent the majority of the season filling in at right-back. Next up for Chelsea is a match against Liverpool on Sunday at Anfield after the international break.
Chelsea provides major Reece James injury update
Due to a hamstring injury sustained during preseason in August, James has not yet participated in a competitive game under new manager Enzo Maresca. The right-back, who was dismissed in the penultimate game of the previous campaign and banned for the first four games of this season, has been gradually regaining his full fitness.
The 24-year-old will be hoping to move past his ordeal with injuries after Chelsea has revealed that James has resumed “team training.” Due to a hamstring issue, the Blues skipper had surgery in December of last year after starting just five Premier League games. During the preseason, James played a lot of games under Maresca and stated his happiness about working with him.
