Chelsea are closing in on a potential summer move for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, with reports suggesting the England international could be available for just £40 million.
Crystal Palace Defender Marc Guehi Available for £40m – Chelsea Interested
The Blues have already made progress in strengthening their backline by agreeing a deal for Ajax youngster Jorrel Hato, who is expected to provide cover for Marc Cucurella.
However, with the transfer window still open, the club appears keen to add more depth, especially in central defence.
According to BBC Sport, Chelsea have shown serious interest in bringing Guehi back to Stamford Bridge. The 25-year-old, who came through Chelsea’s youth academy before joining Palace, is reportedly open to a return.
With just one year left on his current contract, Crystal Palace risk losing him on a free next summer, which may prompt them to sell now for a reduced fee of £40m far less than the £70m Tottenham were said to have offered in January.
Guehi was a standout performer in the 2024/25 Premier League season, making 34 appearances and contributing 3 goals and 2 assists.
Defensively, he racked up 61 tackles, 28 interceptions, 23 blocks, and won 168 duels, including 69 aerial battles underlining his value at the heart of defence.
However, Chelsea are not alone in the race. Premier League rivals Liverpool, Tottenham, and Newcastle have also registered interest in the centre-back.
If Chelsea fail to land Guehi, manager Enzo Maresca still has strong options with Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana, and Tosin Adarabioyo already in the squad.
But adding a player of Guehi’s quality and experience could provide a major boost to the Blues’ defensive stability going into the new season.
