Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca delivered a worrying update on Cole Palmer after the playmaker’s late withdrawal from the team’s 5-1 victory over West Ham United on Friday.
‘Not Very Good’ – Maresca Reveals Concern Over Cole Palmer Injury
Palmer was forced to drop out during the warm-up at the London Stadium after feeling a problem in his groin.
This setback follows a similar issue he carried into Chelsea’s opening Premier League match against Crystal Palace.
Speaking after the match, Maresca revealed the England international has been struggling for several days.
“Cole in the last four or five days was not 100%,” the Italian said.
“He tried the warm-up but he felt something. We preferred not to take any risks.”
Maresca admitted the situation “was not very good” and confirmed the club must now assess the severity of the problem.
He also praised Palmer’s commitment, noting the player “was not 100% but he tried to make a big effort for the club, the fans and the team” in the previous game.
While Palmer’s absence is a significant blow, his replacement, Brazilian teenager Estevao Willian, impressed by providing an assist in the dominant win.
Furthermore, the new attacking partnership of summer signings Joao Pedro and Liam Delap showed promise, offering a positive sign for Chelsea’s attack as they await news on their key man’s fitness.
