Conor Gallagher has refused a two-year deal with an option of a further 12 months.

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has opened up on the current situation of Conor Gallagher. His response came when the midfielder was banished from training.

Gallagher is likely to leave the club and he has entered into his final 12 months at Stamford Bridge. His future has developed into one of the key storylines of the summer transfer window.

Atletico Madrid are following his progress at Chelsea and they are keen to get him on board. They have reached an agreement with Chelsea over a £33m deal. Chelsea have held talks with their academy graduate over signing a new contract.

The 24-year-old has refused a two-year deal with an option of a further 12 months, with the Englishman looking for a long-term contract. The Blues are unwilling to offer a long-term deal.

Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia and Kieran Dewsbury-Hall are set in the pecking order. Gallagher has been banished from the first-team setup ahead of his return to training on Monday.

Maresca said ahead of Saturday’s friendly with Manchester City in Columbus, “The only thing I can say is I know he is in contact with the club to find a solution,”

“The club offered him a new contract. But this is, at the moment, the only news I have received.”
