Chelsea Blocked from Re-Signing Dominic Solanke
Chelsea’s hopes of bringing Dominic Solanke back to Stamford Bridge have been dashed, as the club finds his release clause prohibitive.
Sources close to the situation have informed Football Insider that the Blues are interested in the Bournemouth striker but are deterred by his hefty £65 million release clause.
Dominic Solanke, who kickstarted his professional journey with Chelsea, has become a key figure at Bournemouth. The 26-year-old’s recent contract extension includes a release clause that owner Bill Foley confirmed as being quite steep.
“I believe Dom is going to be with us this coming year. He has a release clause, which is very expensive,” Foley stated.
Chelsea, keeping an eye on Solanke’s progress, feel that his price tag is a significant barrier. With 19 goals in 38 Premier League appearances last season, Solanke has proven his worth, but the financial commitment required to secure his return to Stamford Bridge is too high for the Blues.
Tottenham, another Premier League contender, also continues to monitor the England international. Despite the interest, insiders suggest it would be surprising if any club meets the £65 million asking price to lure Solanke away from the Vitality Stadium.
Currently, Chelsea’s attacking options include Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku, and Armando Broja, managed by Enzo Maresca.
Solanke, under contract with Bournemouth until June 2027, made a brief senior appearance for Chelsea in 2014 before moving to Liverpool and subsequently to Bournemouth.
In a twist of fate, Chelsea’s pursuit of their former prodigy seems to have hit a financial dead end, leaving fans to wonder what could have been.
