Chelsea’s duty to pay Manchester United £25 million for Jadon Sancho has been activated, but a move to Stamford Bridge is not assured. There is no way that Enzo Maresca’s team could finish lower than 15th in the Premier League standings after their thrilling victory over Fulham on Sunday.
In the summer, Sancho signed a loan deal with Chelsea, which included a clause requiring them to sign him permanently if one of several conditions was fulfilled. Chelsea had one of those, finishing higher than 15th, which they will now do at the end of the season.
The Athletic reported in March that Chelsea can avoid the £25 million duty by paying Manchester United a penalty fee, even though the obligation has already been triggered. If Chelsea decides not to sign the England international on a permanent basis, United will be owed £5 million.
Due to uncertainty surrounding Mykhailo Mudryk’s availability, Chelsea plans to sign a new winger in the upcoming transfer window regardless of the outcome of Sancho’s future.
Jadon Sancho’s Chelsea transfer takes another twist
In order to stay at Chelsea past the conclusion of the current season, Sancho will have to contend with more competition. Estevao Willian, 17, and Kendry Paez, 18, who are also highly regarded, will be joining from South America throughout the summer. Estevao, in particular, is regarded as a future global celebrity.
Chelsea has also finalized an agreement to acquire 18-year-old Geovany Quenda, a forward for Sporting CP. He will, however, move in the summer of 2026 after spending the following 14 months in Portugal.
Chelsea’s top target heading into the summer transfer window is still right-footed wingers. Tyrique George scored his first Premier League goal on Sunday after being promoted to the first squad this season as a graduate of the Cobham academy.
Manager Enzo Maresca sidestepped the question of Sancho’s future when asked about it. “I’m completely focused on nine games, two months to go; I’m completely focused on that,” he stated over the weekend. “Then, we’ll see what occurs in the summer.
There is no change in the Jadon scenario. He could definitely perform better in terms of stats. Not only is Jadon involved, but there are other athletes in a similar predicament.
