Chelsea have joined the race to sign Porto striker Moussa Marega

According to insiders who spoke to TEAMtalk, Chelsea intends to raid FC Porto for midfielder Victor Froholdt and attacker Samu Aghehowa. Chelsea is stepping up its scouting efforts in Portugal as the January transfer window approaches, with FC Porto emerging as a top target.

Under Enzo Maresca’s leadership, the Blues are aiming high, but they have focused on two exceptional players: prolific attacker Aghehowa and brilliant midfielder Froholdt.

Chelsea may need to expedite their preparations in order to prevent losing out on these opportunities given the presence of Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid. Since moving from Atlético Madrid to Porto in 2024, Aghehowa, who has four caps for Spain, has been a revelation.

With nine goals and one assist in 15 games this season, the 21-year-old is one of Europe’s most sought-after young forwards due to his lightning-fast pace, skilful finishing, and capacity to flourish in high-pressing systems.

Chelsea has been interested in the striker sensation since the summer, but according to new rumours, they are ready to make a bid of £80 million (€91.2 million, $105.5 million) as early as January in order to ward off competitors.

Chelsea consider audacious £133m double deal for striker & midfielder

Victor Froholdt, the second target, has subtly become one of Porto’s most important midfield players. The 19-year-old Danish international has made an impression with his blend of physical prowess, deft positioning, and accurate passing range. But especially in the middle of the season, Porto is determined to hold onto its top striker.

Chelsea would have to activate Aghehowa’s release clause, which is estimated to be worth approximately £100 million, in order to get his signing because the club has no intention of negotiating a reduction. Both Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid have expressed interest in the youngster, sending scouts to watch him in recent weeks.

An “irresistible offer” for Froholdt, estimated to be between £30 and £35 million, may entice Porto, according to Portuguese sources. According to reports, Chelsea is looking at a package deal that would push talks for both players at the same time. Chelsea may need to move quickly and firmly to finalise what would be one of the most costly double transfers in club history given Porto’s tough position and the intensifying rivalry.
