According to reports, Chelsea is keen to add a new centre defender before the January transfer window closes in order to increase manager Liam Rosenior’s alternatives during the Blues’ hectic time. After Levi Colwill’s horrific ACL injury last summer, Rosenior’s predecessor, Enzo Maresca, lamented the paucity of centre-back transfers and urged the team to find a new defender.

The Italian’s requests were disregarded, and the addition of reinforcements was postponed until the conclusion of the 2025–26 season. However, it appears that Chelsea are open to changing their plans now that Rosenior has joined the team. The Telegraph claims that Chelsea is “looking at accelerating a deal” for a central defender and that they are even willing to bolster their already overstuffed roster this winter without letting go of anybody else.

According to the source, the Blues have expressed interest in Rennes defender Jürgenmy Jacquet and Como’s Jacobo Ramón. They are also open to adding another midfield player and dynamic attacker to their roster, even if strengthening defence is still their first goal.

Chelsea eyeing move for Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet

Chelsea doesn’t seem to be interested in signing England international Marc Guehi, the captain of Crystal Palace, who is available on a free transfer in the summer. According to BBC Sport, Chelsea is a fan of Rennes defender Jacquet, and the centre back department has to be overhauled.

Jacquet, a 20-year-old who has made 16 appearances in Ligue 1 and is presently sixth in the league, has been linked to Chelsea in the past. The contract for the France under-21 international expires in 2029, and Arsenal has apparently previously expressed interest in the Frenchman.

It’s unclear if Chelsea will pursue Jacquet, but the Blues already have an impressive young centre back on their roster. Borussia Dortmund is eager to sign Aaron Anselmino after he put on a string of outstanding performances while on loan.

The Argentine is not for sale, according to Chelsea, and if he keeps up his strong play for the rest of the season, he may be included in the starting lineup at Stamford Bridge the following year.
