Football London understands that Chelsea is hesitant to pay the £25 million that AC Milan is requesting for goalkeeper Mike Maignan.
The 29-year-old goalie has only 12 months left on his contract at the San Siro; thus, the Blues think Milan is asking for too much. The Blues approached Milan earlier this week about signing the player. Chelsea has not yet made a bid for Maignan, despite the fact that he is regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in European football, due to pricing concerns.
The club is still considering Maignan, as a london is aware, but a better deal must be found. Given how brilliantly the Spanish goalkeeper ended the 2024–2025 season, Chelsea is also not attempting to oust Sanchez.
Despite being scrutinized during several stages of the season and even benched for four consecutive Premier League games, Sanchez has performed admirably for the Blues in recent games. Despite playing every game except one in Chelsea’s Conference League, Filip Jorgensen is still Enzo Maresca’s backup goalie.
Mike Maigan intends to sign for Chelsea
According to a report on Thursday from L’Equipe, France international goalkeeper Mike Maignan, 29, wants to join Chelsea FC this summer instead of staying with AC Milan. The Lille OSC Academy graduate is anticipated to start in goal for France against Spain in the Nations League semi-final in Stuttgart tonight. Maignan will now begin his final contract year with the Rossoneri after signing a five-year deal with the club in 2021.
Milan’s bids of renewal have been rejected by Maignan. Given Maignan’s contractual status and the fact that they will not be competing in any European competition next season, the Serie A powerhouses are not in a strong position.
However, Maignan is eager to play frequently in the Champions League, where Chelsea will participate in the next season. After the Nations League finals, Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri plans to speak with Maignan in an attempt to persuade him to remain in Lombardy.
To rely on Maignan for the FIFA Club World Cup, Chelsea plans to act quickly. Milan has established their asking price for Maignan at €25 million. The Blues think it’s a disproportionate amount considering Maignan’s age and contract status.
