Chelsea is reportedly “hopeful of beating Arsenal” to the signing of winger Mykhailo Mudryk from Shakhtar Donetsk
The Premier League’s transfer market has opened, putting the two London rivals in a fight for the Ukrainian international this month.
Arsenal reportedly made a second offer of £62 million to Shakhtar this week, making them the early front-runners to sign Mudryk. Even though the club openly asserts Mudryk is worth €100 million (£89 million), Shakhtar is still eager to make the total sum go beyond £70 million.
The Guardian reports that Chelsea is ‘hopeful of beating Arsenal to the signing of’ Mudryk in January, giving the Blues the opportunity to hijack the Mudryk deal.
According to the newspaper, Arsenal “remain favourites” and Mudryk favours a move to the Emirates Stadium, although Chelsea might be willing to offer a higher price than the Gunners.
Chelsea saw their chance of making a deal when they “saw Shakhtar officials in London this week” and “they are ready to go on with a move for the 22-year-old” after having two Arsenal proposals rejected. This month, Chelsea was left with the “idea that Mudryk would be theirs for £60m plus £20m in add-ons.”
