According to TEAMtalk, Chelsea has turned down AEK Athens’ initial bid for David Datro Fofana, a striker. Chelsea would want to sell Fofana in order to help balance the books, but Greek team AEK is eager to take the player on loan. With Fofana far down Enzo Maresca’s hierarchy at Stamford Bridge, speculation about the forward’s future at Chelsea has been rife all summer.
This summer, Fofana was reportedly linked to teams like Everton and Sunderland, but he was unable to negotiate a transfer before the English transfer market closed. While the Greek transfer market is still open, AEK is eager to sign Fofana in order to expand their offensive options. Chelsea, however, rejected their initial bid because they wish to receive a substantial sell-on payment in addition to recovering between £10 and $12 million for Fofana.
David Datro Fofana keen on sealing Chelsea exits this month
The striker will try to go permanently after spending last season on loan at Burnley. Reporter Kieran Gill of the Daily Mail claims that Chelsea and Greek team AEK Athens are now in discussions over a long-term transfer.
Whether the two clubs can swiftly finalize the agreement will be interesting to watch. Greece’s transfer window is still open for business, and they intend to complete the trade as soon as possible. Chelsea, meanwhile, is keen to remove the young Ivorian off their roster.
The 21-year-old should leave Chelsea permanently since he has no future there. It would be best for all parties. He wants to play regular football again, and the Greek team might give him the opportunity he needs to do so.
