Marcus Thuram warns Chelsea that he will be unrestricted in the summer
Marcus Thuram, a target for Chelsea, will be allowed to go on his own accord in the summer, according to Borussia Monchengladbach’s sporting director Roland Virkus.
As his contract with the German team ends at the conclusion of this season, the French international has shown his intent to leave by rejecting a new contract offer from them (Transfermarkt). Due to his contract expiring in the summer, Thuram was a target for Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester United during the January transfer window.
While losing a quality player, and for free, in the summer is upsetting for Gladbach, it’s fantastic news for teams like Chelsea, Arsenal, and others. From the perspective of the Blues, it is obvious that we need to make an investment in the nine position during the upcoming transfer window. We are 13th in the league table on that metric with 23 goals scored in 23 league games. It is returned mid-table.
If we manage to sign Thuram, he has the talent and finishing prowess to succeed here. In 22 games across all competitions this season, the French international, who played for Guingamp before relocating to Germany in 2019, has scored 14 goals and provided four assists.
As a striker, he can easily play on either side of the wing. He is a free agent, therefore Chelsea would be insane to pass up the opportunity to sign him. The French two can trouble most Premier League defences, and Christopher Nkunku is expected to arrive in the summer.
