Former Chelsea midfielder rules out immediate return to Stamford Bridge as speculation swirls

“I Will Continue My Chapter”: Fabregas Rejects Chelsea Job Speculation

Cesc Fabregas has quickly dismissed talk of a potential return to Chelsea following the club’s decision to sack manager Liam Rosenior on Wednesday.

The 38-year-old Spaniard, who currently manages Como in Italy’s Serie A, made his stance clear when asked about the vacancy at Stamford Bridge.

“Nothing to say about that, it’d be stupid to think about that now,”

Fabregas told reporters on Friday, per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. “My focus is on the next game against Genoa.”

He added: “I believe I will continue my chapter as Como head coach. Focus on next games.”

Fabregas spent five trophy-laden years at Chelsea as a player from 2014 to 2019, winning two Premier League titles, one FA Cup and one Carabao Cup.

He took charge of Como in 2023 and has transformed the Italian club, securing promotion to Serie A after a 21-year wait.

Como currently sits sixth in the league and recently reached the Coppa Italia semifinals.

Como president Mirwan Suwarso had earlier fueled speculation by admitting the club would not stand in Fabregas’s way. “If that makes him happy, that’s him,” Suwarso told City AM.

“You want your employees to stay with you for as long as possible, but at the end of the day, we don’t own him. He’s free to go to Chelsea if he wishes.”

Rosenior lasted just 106 days in charge after signing a nearly six-year contract on January 6.

A humiliating 3–0 defeat to Brighton on Tuesday proved the final blow, marking Chelsea’s fifth straight league match without scoring—a drought the club hasn’t seen since 1912.

Interim manager Calum McFarlane will lead the Blues for the remainder of the season, starting with Sunday’s FA Cup semifinal against Leeds.

Other potential permanent candidates include former Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso and Fulham’s Marco Silva.
