Cesar Azpilicueta is the club captain now. Let us learn more about Cesar Azpilicueta!

5. Cesar Azpilicueta has a nickname – Dave

The Chelsea captain has a complicated surname. So his teammates lovingly call him Dave, his nickname! He has been called so both at the national camp and in his clubs. He got the name while he was playing for Marseille in France.

4. Cesar Azpilicueta best friends in Chelsea

This is a fairly easy one. Azpilicueta is close to his Spanish team-mates of course. He was neighbors with Alvaro Morata. He is close to Marcos Alonso and Pedro. When Fabregas and Costa were at Chelsea, the Spanish boys had their own gang.

However, the captain is also close to Willian and the duo spends a lot of time together. Azpi also loves joking around with N’Golo Kante who according to Dave, is hilarious during training.

Azpilicueta’s friend’s circle also extends to the French companions including Giroud and co.!

Here is an old interview from Azpi taken by Callum Hudson Odoi where he spoke about his bus journeys!

On being asked who he spends his time with, he said, “The Spanish lads and with Willian. They play some games. Or I sit with the French people, on phones or just talking. There is also a game Parcheesi – in Spain, it is quite popular and easy to play.”

3. Cesar Azpilicueta was the captain of the Spanish U-23 team

Cesar Azpilicueta was one of the younger players who came through rapidly in the ranks in the Spanish youth team set up. He was the captain of the 2012 Spanish Olympics football team.

2. Best friend is Eden Hazard of Cesar Azpilicueta

Who is the best friend of Azpi? Well, it was Eden of course. He was asked by Callum Hudson Odoi about a hypothetical situation of what he would do if Azpi had to go to Antarctica and who he would take with him? Azpi said that he stayed with Hazard in his neighborhood and hence would love to take him along!

He said, “I have been here with Eden for a long time, we are neighbors and we put our kids together, so I would take him as he is a very good friend of mine.”

This was last year of course!

1. Bull Running in Cesar Azpilicueta home town

He comes and hails from a town in a bull running. It is famous for its bulls. He said, ‘I have watched the bulls running but I have never taken part. I don’t think that I would ever have done that even if I was not a footballer. But my ex-teammates did. A lot of them. And in the town a lot of people prepared all year and got themselves fit enough to run from bulls. Everybody has their own passion. Perhaps my desire is to be fit for football. “

Here are some fun excerpts from Azpi’s interview with Chelsea last year.

Who has been the best player in training lately?

Training is a very important part of our job and recently everyone has been training hard and trying to get in the best possible shape for the games. If I had to name one good moment then Pedro in front of goal, he makes the difference and you see when it comes to the game the way he trains, he repeats it in the game.

Of the outfield players, who fancies himself in goal?

In goal I don’t know, but what I will say is Eden, when we play small games, he likes to be a defender – a ball-playing defender!

Of the defenders, who would make the best striker?

Marcos has good instinct in and around the box. He has scored a lot of goals and he has great ability in the last third.

Who is good at lifting morale after a bad result?

We are part of a group where we have experience of the club and football at this level and with experience you try to help the young players and the people that come new to the club. We know each other and we have to push because there is nothing stronger than a unit.

Who is the biggest joker in the dressing room?

I don’t know about joker but the funniest is N’Golo because he does things, he tells you something that he did at home or something he forgot, or when he arrived late. There are a couple of things when he tells you, you laugh with him because you don’t expect that he can do that kind of stuff.

Who is the quietest?

Ruben is quite quiet. I have been with him a long time, he started to train with us when he was 17 but still he is very quiet. You will never see him talking loudly and even though he grew, he is still a quiet kid.

Who is the loudest?

Rudiger. You can hear him! Whether it is in the dressing room, on the pitch or at the table, you know where he is.

Who is good at free-kicks in training that we might not know about?

Normally those who are taking them in training are those who take them in games. There are not secrets. Now people know about Ross because he scored an excellent free-kick (which may be watched again below).

Who is the most active on social media?

We have had groups of players in the past who were more into the social media, but lately, obviously we use it but I don’t see anyone who is always trying to do it.

If you could book any music act to play at Under the Bridge [the venue at Stamford Bridge], who would it be and which players would you try to convince to come with you?

For me, something for the kids would be the best – my kids and the kids of the other players. Something that will mean they can enjoy a party.

Who do you eat lunch with at Cobham?

I rarely have lunch here!

Who took the longest to learn English?

At the moment, N’Golo for the years he has been in England could speak much better.
