The arrival of Edouard Mendy has seen a big relief on the faces of many Chelsea fans.
Ahead of Mendy’s arrival, Lampard had said: “Petr was important in that because goalkeeper is a very particular position. Petr Cech was the best in the world in that position for a long time so he’s obviously had a big say in this situation.
“From my point of view, I lean heavily on him when it comes to goalkeeping today and in the future. So yes, he was very influential.”
Petr himself came from Rennais back in 2004 as an unknown young goalkeeper and lit up the Premier League, where he is now a record holder for the most number of clean sheets.
The new arrival Mendy will hoping to emulate the big goalie.
Mendy said: ‘I am so excited to be joining Chelsea. It’s a dream for me to be a part of this exciting squad and to work with Frank Lampard and all of his coaching staff. I look forward to meeting my team-mates and can’t wait to get started.’
Chelsea might get to see their new signing in action as early as Saturday when they take on West Brom.
