According to the Daily Mail, AFC Bournemouth have expressed interest in taking Danny Drinkwater off Chelsea’s hands on loan this January.
Reports in the past week alarmingly claimed that no offers had come in for the out-of-favour central midfielder but it seems like Eddie Howe is ready to offer Drinkwater an escape.
The Cherries boss wants to add the 28-year-old into his ranks for the remainder of the campaign. Drinkwater has made just one appearance for Chelsea this season and that too in the Community Shield.
He made the switch from Leicester City in the summer of 2017 for £35m. He has since recorded only 28 appearances and a single goal for the South West London club.
It has been made abundantly clear that he is excess to Maurizio Sarri’s needs at the Stamford Bridge and a club exit is imminent. The question is simply when.
Drinkwater’s £100,000-per-week wage bill has proved to be a massive hiccup in Chelsea’s efforts to ship him out of the Bridge. However, Howe is on the offensive this January transfer window and is looking at the outcasts from top sides who can make real difference for his team.
Bournemouth has successfully signed Dominic Solanke and Nathaniel Clyne from Liverpool this season and adding a Premier League winner like Drinkwater could certainly boost their chances of finishing higher up in the table.
