Bournemouth have initiated formal talks with Chelsea over a potential loan deal for defender Axel Disasi, aiming to bolster their depleted defensive options before the summer transfer window closes.
Bournemouth Negotiate Loan Move for Chelsea’s Axel Disasi
The Cherries are proposing a loan agreement with an option to buy the French centre-back, who has struggled to secure a consistent role at Stamford Bridge since his £38.5 million arrival from Monaco in 2023.
According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, club-to-club negotiations are underway, and Bournemouth have also engaged in discussions with Disasi’s representatives regarding personal terms.
Chelsea prefer a permanent transfer but are exploring “different formulas” with the south-coast club, including a potential obligation-to-buy clause based on performance conditions.
Disasi, left out of Chelsea’s squad for their Premier League opener, is open to the move after a disappointing loan spell at Aston Villa last season.
The urgency for Bournemouth stems from losing four key defenders this summer, including centre-backs Dean Huijsen (Real Madrid) and Illia Zabarnyi (PSG).
Although they signed Bafodé Diakité from Lille for £30.3 million, manager Andoni Iraola views Disasi as a viable reinforcement due to his physicality and Premier League experience.
Disasi’s aerial strength and tackling ability align with Iraola’s system, though his lack of pace has raised concerns.
Chelsea seek to recoup a significant portion of their initial investment in Disasi, who made just 61 appearances for the club and failed to impress during his loan at Villa.
Bournemouth face competition from Juventus, Newcastle, and Villarreal, but the player’s willingness to join could expedite the deal.
For Bournemouth, this move represents a calculated risk to address defensive shortages, while Chelsea continue their squad clear-out under Enzo Maresca.
