The midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka of Chelsea has consented to go on loan to Borussia Dortmund. The 21-year-old’s flight from Farnborough to Paderborn, Germany, is scheduled for Monday in advance of his medical. Dortmund will pay his salary and a loan fee as part of the transaction, and there will be a buyout option above his £40 million release clause. According to reputable Italian source Fabrizio Romano, Carney Chukwuemeka had drawn interest from Borussia Dortmund. The Chelsea midfield prospect has agreed to a loan contract with the Bundesliga’s top teams till the end of the 2024–2025 season.
The very quick English player will undergo his medical on Monday before completing his deal before the winter transfer deadline. Chelsea will be relieved that Chukwuemeka’s whole salary will be paid by the Black and Yellows. According to a previous update by Fabrizio Romano, the loan agreement includes a purchase option for Borussia Dortmund, which is valued at over £40 million, which is the Englishman’s release clause. Dortmund will also pay Chelsea a loan fee.
Chelsea star agrees to join Dortmund on loan
For the Blues this season, the 21-year-old has not made a single Premier League appearance. Chukwuemeka was acquired by Chelsea from Aston Villa in 2022 for £20 million. Due to Enzo Maresca at Chelsea, he has mainly been benched this season and has not played a single minute in the Premier League. With four of those outings coming as substitutes and all of them in cup competitions, Chukwuemeka has made five appearances overall this season. His one start came against Astana in Kazakhstan during the Conference League dead rubber.
It makes it obvious that Dortmund would want Carney Chukwuemeka. In search of a midfield player before the winter transfer window, the Bundesliga powerhouses have been searching the market. Despite having a number of midfield players in his team, Niko Kovac has had to put their toes in the market for reinforcements due to a few injuries. Borussia Dortmund has so far secured an agreement to sign the forgotten Chelsea prospect on loan until the conclusion of the 2024–2025 season, making him a serious target. In addition, Chukwuemeka’s release clause is worth over £40 million, which the Black and Yellows have acquired as a buy option. Prior to the winter transfer deadline, the English midfielder will complete the loan deal after finishing his medical examinations on Monday.
