Billy Gilmour has revealed what Frank Lampard told him before his Chelsea debut.
The Chelsea youth academy product has had an exciting start to his first team career and now has shared what Lamps had told him before his first match.
‘The night before, the gaffer kept asking if my family were coming down and saying make sure they come,’ the Scotland U21 international said. ‘We were 2-0 up and I’m thinking ‘this could be good’, but it was 2-1 when I came on.’
‘That shows you how much trust he has in the younger players to put you on in such a tight game. ‘It finished 2-2, which wasn’t the result I hoped for, but it made my dream come true of playing in the Premier League.’
Gilmour went on to make his Carabao Cup debut later that month in a 7-1 win over Grimsby Town. And Lampard was full of praise for the youngster after the match.
‘I thought Billy Gilmour was the best player on the pitch,’ Lampard said after the match. ‘He moves the ball at a pace. Every pass he hits is punchy and into people’s feet. I’m delighted for him.’
