Bayern Munich have instructed Nicolas Jackson to return to London after abruptly canceling his proposed loan move from Chelsea, leaving the striker stranded in Germany and sparking a heated transfer dispute.
The sudden reversal occurred following a hamstring injury to Chelsea’s forward Liam Delap during Saturday’s Premier League match against Fulham.
The Senegalese international had arrived in Munich on Saturday to finalize the season-long loan, which included a £13 million fee and an option for Bayern to make the transfer permanent for £56.2 million next summer.
However, Chelsea officially halted the move after Delap’s injury, which manager Enzo Maresca confirmed could sideline the striker for six to eight weeks.
Max Eberl, Bayern’s sporting director, publicly addressed the situation after his team’s 3-2 victory over Augsburg.
He revealed that Chelsea notified Bayern of their decision just before the match, stating, “Chelsea said shortly before the game that they would like the player back after we reached an agreement yesterday.
The current situation is that the boy is here in Munich, but we’re sending him back”.
Eberl emphasized that the club had no signed contract with Jackson, despite the earlier agreement, and acknowledged the challenging timeline with only 48 hours remaining in the transfer window.
Jackson, however, has refused to comply with Chelsea’s recall and remains in Munich, expressing anger over the disrupted move.
His reluctance stems from a desire for a fresh challenge and concerns over playing time ahead of next year’s World Cup.
The collapse leaves Bayern without their intended backup for Harry Kane and forces Chelsea to rely on Joao Pedro as their only recognized senior striker.
Eberl indicated that Bayern would explore alternative options but admitted the situation was unplanned.
