Bayern Munich is apparently interested in Malo Gusto along with Christopher Nkunku, and Chelsea is reportedly warming to the sale of the French right-back after being wowed by another one.
Gusto signed a seven-and-a-half-year contract with Chelsea in January 2023 after the club paid Lyon an initial £26 million to acquire him. Add-ons may have increased the fee to £31 million. Gusto spent the rest of the 2022–2023 season on loan at Lyon before joining Stamford Bridge that summer.
Gusto has played more for Chelsea than most people anticipated because of teammate right-back Reece James’ injury issues. But this season, his play has deteriorated, raising the possibility that the 22-year-old would leave.
During the 2024–25 season, Gusto played in 42 Chelsea games, but his playing time decreased as the season came to a close. Therefore, if Bayern makes a firm offer for the Frenchman, who Transfermarkt now values at €35 million, Chelsea might be amenable to a deal.
Bayern move for second Chelsea star after Nkunku
Nkunku may not be the only Chelsea player to relocate to Munich, though. According to recent reports, the Bundesliga champs are considering another, and many may be surprised by the name.
At Stamford Bridge, this player is still in the starting lineup. On Si Phillips Talks Chelsea, Simon Phillips discussed Bayern Munich’s inquiry to the Blues over Malo Gusto.
In contrast to Nkunku, Gusto’s strong performances from the previous season attracted some attention. The same cannot be true about his most recent campaign, though. With just two assists and no goals in 41 games across all competitions, he has battled with form and hasn’t had much of an impact.
The rise of academy graduate Josh Acheampong may cause Gusto to leave, according to Phillips. Acheampong is highly regarded by Chelsea, who believe he will soon begin to have a significant influence on the starting lineup.
The right-back’s departure isn’t as unlikely as first believed. Maresca’s strategies simply don’t seem to work for him. Chelsea might approve if Bayern Munich makes a good offer when they knock on the door. We shall see what transpires.
