Raheem Sterling of Chelsea was the target of a surprise bid by German powerhouse Bayern Munich on the day of the deadline, according to sources. During the summer, the Blues tried to cut a number of players, including Sterling, but they were unsuccessful.
In exchange for Sterling, Chelsea was expected to receive £20 million, but more importantly, they wanted to remove Sterling’s alleged weekly salary of almost £300,000. Although he had attention from teams like Crystal Palace, West Ham, and Fulham, Sterling made it plain that he wants to stay in London.
On deadline day, Chelsea did not receive any proposals for Sterling; therefore, he will now continue to train alone at Cobham until at least January. He made it apparent that he was not interested in moving to Saudi Arabia or Turkey, and Chelsea is reportedly hesitant to end Sterling’s contract.
Bayern kicked tires on Sterling in the summer
The Telegraph said that on deadline day, Bayern made an attempt to sign Sterling. But they made no specific offer; it was merely a routine question. In addition, Manchester United and Napoli expressed interest in the 30-year-old, who has been shut out of the first-team picture.
Although the England winger has a great deal of experience, his performance has not been close to what it was while he was at Manchester City. Signing the former Liverpool forward was a big financial risk because he also didn’t perform well while on loan at Arsenal the previous season.
Although it looked like they could lose out on Jackson after Chelsea first put a stop to the transaction, Bayern ultimately agreed to a loan agreement for him. Bayern should be pleased that they have two excellent strikers in Jackson and Luis Diaz, even though the summer transfer window might have been better.
