Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta has said that the club should respect Eden Hazard’s decision to leave the club. Hazard joined Chelsea in 2012 from Lille on a transfer fee of £32 million. The Belgian has since become an integral part of the club, scoring 108 goals and providing 91 assists in 351 appearances across all competitions.

This season, Hazard has been terrific for Chelsea, scoring 19 goals and 16 assists in 51 appearances across all competitions.

However, it seems that this season may as well be Hazard’s last at Chelsea as their is a very good possibility of the 28-year old joining Real Madrid in the summer.

Chelsea skipper Azpilicueta, who joined the club at the same time as Hazard said that while he wants the Belgian to stay with the club, Chelsea should respect his decision.

The Spaniard said, “He is a very important player for us. We arrived [at Chelsea] at the same time and, obviously, we want him to stay with us but we have to respect his decision. His mind is only on doing well with Chelsea and lifting the trophy in Baku. Then we will see.”

Chelsea are currently in the United States where they will play a charity game against New England Revolution. Azpilicueta feels that this match doesn’t interfere with the club’s Europa League Final preparations. He said, “We have to do anything – train hard, to rest – we have nearly two weeks until the final so it’s very important to arrive in the best condition for the final. Hopefully we can get in a good shape and lift the trophy.”
