 Atletico Madrid are keen on signing Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso
According to Marca, Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso is on Diego Simeone’s transfer radar.
Marcos Alonso has been an unused replacement in multiple matches since the arrival of Ben Chilwell. The Spaniard was the first-choice left-back a few seasons ago, and he was a formidable force in attack.
However, times have changed, and players like Chilwell and Reece James have significantly improved their wing play. As a result, he has recently been Tuchel’s second-choice left wingback.
Marcos Alonso battled for playing time last season.
The two English full-backs had a strong start to the season and were one of the league’s best wing-back partnerships. However, after Chilwell’s injury in November, the situation deteriorated. His recent operation kept him out for the remainder of the season, and Chelsea needed classic Marcos Alonso at that point.
Tuchel’s sole acknowledged option at the position is the Spaniard, and the German has been careful to limit his playing time. However, Atletico Madrid intends to put Chelsea’s patience to the test. Diego Simeone is said to be a long-time admirer of the Real Madrid academy graduate and wants to bring him back to Spain.
Despite the fact that Chelsea were able to recall Kenedy from loan, the Brazilian’s status as a first-team player at Stamford Bridge remains unknown. Tuchel tried Malang Sarr and Sal guez in Chilwell’s place, but the results were disappointing.
Chelsea’s present left-back predicament signals that any move involving Alonso may be difficult to complete. However, there is no firm word from Chelsea on whether they intend to sell the defender or not, or whether they have long-term ambitions for him.
