Enzo Maresca was named Chelsea’s next head coach to succeed Mauricio Pochettino, and the team got to work immediately during the summer transfer window of 2024. The Blues are still trying to offload players, and Conor Gallagher’s availability has drawn interest.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Atletico Madrid is now the team most interested in acquiring the midfield player from England for the upcoming summer. The La Liga powerhouses have contacted the Blues to inquire about the possibilities of signing Gallagher, he continues.
Romano continues, “The Spanish club’s interest is genuine, but it will not be an easy deal to secure because Gallagher’s valuation is still quite expensive for them.” His current contract is set to expire in 2025, and he has yet to reach an agreement on a renewal.
Atletico is close to sign £60m Tottenham target
With Spanish powerhouse Atletico Madrid now in the running, Tottenham may really lose out on one of their long-term goals. Ange Postecoglou, though, is believed to have higher expectations and is currently in the market for a new midfield player.
Chelsea is reportedly willing to pay £60 million for Gallagher, but it’s unclear if the Spanish team would accept that amount. But in terms of his future, it’s obvious that Gallagher has options. He appears to have a choice among several elite teams if Chelsea decides to sell him.
