Antonio Rudiger questioned Chelsea’s decision to sack Thomas Tuchel.
Former Blues defender Antonio Rudiger was surprised when he learned that Chelsea sacked Thomas Tuchel.
The German coach was dismissed earlier this month by new owner Todd Boehly after the club’s 1-0 loss to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League.
Graham Potter was hired as a direct replacement for the former PSG manager.
Rudiger was one of the beneficiaries of Tuchel’s arrival in January 2021 who led the squad to their Champions League win in just six months.
Rudiger said to Sport 1: “First, he was allowed to bring in new players, only to be released after a few games. I was surprised at the speed.
“The day of his release was a sad one for me. I wrote to him afterwards and thanked him again for everything.
“He was there for everyone, not just me. If you look at where we came from and where he took us, he did the impossible.
“But you know how it is in football. Sometimes you’re the hero, sometimes the bogeyman.”
