Antonio Rudiger denies speaking to board about Lampard sacking

Antonio Rudiger had no role in Frank Lampard’s Chelsea sacking.

Frank Lampard was sacked in January after failing to improve from a horrid spell of form.

Antonio Rudiger had fallen out of favour under his former boss Frank Lampard and was heavily linked with a move away from the Stamford Bridge.

But the arrival of Thomas Tuchel helped him get back to the squad, starting in both of Tuchel’s matches so far.

The 27-year old defender said he had no part to play in Lampard losing his job.

Rudiger told the Athletic: “There have been so many nonsense rumours around about me since last week. “I’ve never talked with the board about the situation of the coach or on any other topics.

“Frank Lampard trusted in my abilities after Christmas in a very difficult situation and I was thankful for this.

“It was also the main reason I told my representatives not to look for a possible winter move anymore.

“Unfortunately, it was not meant to be for our team to turn things around for the coach.

“We always wanted the best for the manager and for the club.”
