Antonio Rudiger Confident Of Not Being Frozen Out At Chelsea

Antonio Rudiger is confident of being allowed sufficient gametime by Frank Lampard.

Chelsea have looked at options to sell the defender this summer but ended up keeping him for the season.

Rudiger’s future is still very much uncertain following some disappointing performances last term. He was a major part of Chelsea letting in 54 goals in the Premier League, even though the cast around him was not that impressive either.

Now, the German is fifth on Lampard’s pecking order for centre-backs, behind Thiago Silva, Andreas Christensen, Kurt Zouma and Fikayo Tomori. Fans can still hope to see the best of Rudiger return. The £29m signing from AS Roma did prove to be a quality addition when he first came in under Antonio Conte.

“It is what it is now. I will accept it for the time being and try to show myself in every training session,” said Rudiger. “We are in many different competitions, it’s two games per week all the way from now. Sometimes in football, things can change very quickly.

“That’s why I will continue to give my best every day and try to convince the manager.”

Rudiger can expect to feature in Cup games and in case, injury problems arise within the squad. It is still certain that he will have to prove his worth to Lampard or risk being cast out after the 2020/21 season.
