Another Attacker Set To Leave Chelsea For €56m

According to Italian news outlet, Tuttomercato, Atletico Madrid are set to complete the permanent transfer of Alvaro Morata from Chelsea.

The La Liga side will be activating their buy-back clause worth €56m this summer. Morata joined Atletico in January and has scored on 6 occasions.

The Rojiblancos are reportedly impressed by the Spaniard’s efforts in the 16 games he has been involved in this season. Diego Simeone’s job at the Wandametropolitana has been made infinitely difficult after Antoine Greizmann announced his departure from the club.

With the Frenchman leaving the attacking lineup, Atletico will need able bodies to fill up the centre-forward spot. Morata is not exactly a similar player to replace Greizmann but he is certainly a valuable option.

Griezmann has a release clause worth €124m which will help pay for Morata’s transfer. The latter is a misfit back at the Stamford Bridge and is not wanted by the fans or current boss, Maurizio Sarri.

However, with Gonzalo Higuain noted to make a return to Juventus, the Blues might have to recruit from within. The transfer ban has made things difficult at South West London, placing a huge doubt on the futures of current players as well.
