Following an outstanding performance against Brentford, Chelsea player Moises Caicedo was chosen in Premier League great Alan Shearer’s Team of the Week. The Blues were the clear favourites to win the London derby with their current form, but it was never going to be easy. Enzo Maresca’s team was under pressure to end that terrible record and keep up their title challenge after Chelsea had lost their last three home games against the Bees by a collective score of 8-1.
Marc Cucurella and Nicolas Jackson’s goals made sure Bryan Mbeumo’s late scare was simply a consolation in the 2-1 victory at Stamford Bridge, and the Blues delivered. Although the Blues needed to be playing at their peak, Caicedo was one player that stood out for Shearer. Brentford made it over the bridge empty-handed on their fourth visit since returning to the top division thanks to a masterclass from the Ecuadorian.

The former striker for Newcastle United wrote: “Chelsea’s midfield enforcer was outstanding once more, winning tackles and repeatedly regaining possession in Brentford’s half.” The side of Thomas Frank simply could not escape. Described as “world class” by former Chelsea manager Graham Potter, Caicedo had a standout performance.
He completed three out of four long balls, recorded 84 touches, and made two crucial passes. He also made two tackles, four interceptions, and won six duels. Since moving from Brighton & Hove Albion for a record-breaking £115 million, the 23-year-old has been a regular in the middle of the park for Chelsea. He is an essential part of Maresca’s midfield and has improved since his time at the Amex Stadium. The function that he plays in the middle of the park is not adequately represented by his three goals in 16 Premier League appearances.
