BBC Pundit and former Newcastle striker Alan Shearer was full of praise for Chelsea’s players following their 4-1 win against Southampton on the weekend.

Chelsea racked up a 4-1 scoreline to cap off yet another exciting performance under Frank Lampard. Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham, N’Golo Kante and Michy Batshuyayi were on the scoresheet and garnered a lot of praise for their impressive performances.

“They are not bad at all. They have three very exciting players, the energy they have, the link-up play and of course the understanding, they ran riot all afternoon and they weren’t too far away from each other,” he said, speaking on BBC programme Match of the Day 2.

“What a pass from [Callum] Hudson-Odoi [for the first goal], the run from [Tammy] Abraham, the finish is superb. Mason Mount actually won the header [for the second goal] and what I like about it is he wants to be involved, he doesn’t stand and admire it. Willian was exceptional all afternoon as well.”

“The second half didn’t change. They were a threat all afternoon, Abraham and Mount in the full England squad, Hudson-Odoi back from injury and England U21 so it looks very good for them.”

Chelsea will be in action against Newcastle following the international break.
