Chelsea Winger Showered With Praise After 'Fabulous' England Debut

Callum Hudson-Odoi was showered with praise from England head coach, Gareth Southgate and his international teammates after his full senior debut.

The teenage Chelsea winger was surprisingly in the Three Lions starting XI for the 5-1 victory over Montenegro on Monday. He impressed plenty with his display even though he was not on the scoresheet.

After the match, Southgate singled out praise for Hudson-Odoi and said, “The game was a simple one in that we talked all week about using the width.

“Our wingers were incredibly productive on the night. It was a fabulous performance from young Callum Hudson-Odoi. This place has been difficult for us. It was a good test of character.”

“I don’t need to speak about Callum — his performance did that. With young players, it’s up to them. You can see the talent. His application has been excellent but like any player, you have to work hard to improve.”

Hudson-Odoi’s Blues teammate, Charle Barkley scored a brace and also laid out an assist. He told Daily Mail, “It was a great night for me. Montenegro was always going to be a hard test but we showed character to come back and put in a positive performance.

“From the first minute of the training sessions, Callum Hudson-Odoi has been top drawer. He fully deserved the start.”
