Jamie Carragher Insists Chelsea Midfielder is Struggling For Severe Man Marking

Jamie Carragher insists he feels sorry for Jorginho as the midfielder is at the receiving end of severe man marking.

Jorginho started well following his multimillion pound move from Napoli. Sarri has mostly used him as a deep lying playmaker to pull the strings from the deepest position. Despite having N’Golo Kante at his disposal the manager has preferred Kante in an advanced position rather than his usual holding midfield role.

Sarri’s strategy seems to have taken an adverse effect on Chelsea’s gameplay. Jorginho has often caught behind as opponent managers deployed players around him to specifically mark him in a bid to disrupt Chelsea’s play.

Despite severe criticism, Sarri has insisted he is not going to tweak his strategy and Jorginho will continue to be at the central position.

Carragher said, “At the start of this season the formula worked. Then the better coaches reacted, man-marking Jorginho.

“Faced with the challenge of tweaking his 4-3-3 system, Sarri’s response has disappointed. He won’t replace Jorginho because without him the system is compromised, but I feel sorry for the midfielder because any player who is man-marked will find it difficult – as we have seen with Eden Hazard.

“When you are man-marked it is a sign of respect. Jorginho needs help.”
