Manchester United looking to hijack £50 million-rated Chelsea target Nicolo Barella

Manchester United looking to hijack Chelsea target Nicolo Barella

The Italian media has linked Cagliari midfielder Nicolo Barella with a move to Manchester United in January.

Cagliari have slapped a £50 million price tag on the 21-year-old, who has also been on the shop list of Inter Milan and Chelsea. However, the Nerazzurri are unlikely to meet Cagliari’s asking price for Barella, having been encumbered by FFP rules.

Chelsea were close to signing the highly-rated youngster in the earlier weeks of the transfer window but those speculations seem to have cooled down after the arrival of Gonzalo Higuain at Stamford Bridge.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have resurrected their season under their new caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, with the Norwegian guiding the Red Devils to 8 straight wins in a row.

United progressed to the fifth round of the FA Cup with an impressive 3-1 win over Arsenal on Friday night.

Alexis Sanchez opened the scoring half an hour into the game before Jesse Lingard doubled the advantage within a couple of minutes. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang pulled one back for the Gunners before halftime but Anthony Martial put the game to bed late in the second half.

United haven’t shown much intent in the transfer window so far under Solskjaer and their interest in Barella comes at a time when they are flying high with an eight-game winning run.
