Rio Ferdinand blasts Jorginho and calls upon Sarri to ring the changes

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has come down hard on Jorginho in wake of Chelsea’s 2-0 humbling at the hands of Arsenal, claiming that the Italian ‘can’t run’ and he should be replaced by N’Golo Kante.

Kante has played in an advanced role on the right of Sarri’s midfield three and Ferdinand criticised the manager for playing the Frenchman out of position, saying that he is the best in the world in a holding role.

Chelsea still occupy the final Champions League qualification spot but Man United and Arsenal are just 3 points behind the Blues.

He told BT Sport: ‘Jorginho’s someone who sets the tempo of a game. You get the ball into him through the middle third of the pitch, he’s very good.

‘[But] How many assists has he got this season? Around 2,000 passes, no assists.

‘He’s not a great defender. Once a game gets like this against the big teams, he gets overrun in midfield.

‘He can’t run. So he doesn’t give you anything defensively, and he doesn’t give you anything up the other end of the pitch.

The United legend further pointed to Chelsea’s lack of a specialist No.9 in the team, saying that the Blues are not getting the best out of Eden Hazard by playing him as a false nine.

‘Chelsea’s problems all stem from not having a number nine. There’s no focal point. I think this manager needs to play Kante in the holding position. He’s the best in the world there.

‘Hazard can play the false nine role but he doesn’t offer you as much. Two of the best players are playing out of position at the moment.’

Jermain Jenas echoed Ferdinand’s comments, saying: ‘Hazard was completely swamped. There are too many sloppy moments from Chelsea.

‘I don’t see any intent or direction. What’s the plan? They’ve got decent players but it’s not happening.’
