Andy Cole backs Higuain to thrive in the Premier League
Former Manchester United striker Andy Cole has backed Gonzalo Higuain to taste success in the Premier League at Chelsea, with the Blues being repeatedly linked with a move for the 31-year-old in January.
Maurizio Sarri has reportedly put pressure on the Chelsea board to strike a six-month loan deal for the Argentinian striker, having worked with him previously at Napoli.
Chelsea are closing in on a loan deal for Higuain with an option to extend his stay at the end of the season, and reports claim that the 31-year-old might be available for the club’s second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Spurs next week.
While Arsenal legend Paul Merson expressed his doubts whether Higuain would be a success at Chelsea, Andy Cole is confident that signing Higuain is an absolute ‘no-brainer’ for the Blues.
‘Is Higuain to Chelsea a good deal? No brainer. No brainer, for me,’ he told Sky Sports. ‘If you look at this career, the goals he’s got in Italy, Spain, no brainer.
‘We’re sitting here saying Chelsea have had huge centre forwards that have struggled over the years but I think he’ll be fine.
‘His attributes are that he scores goals, especially where he’s played at, playing at Real Madrid, he was the main centre forward and got loads of goals there.
‘He’s got good movement, I like his movement. He works very, very hard for a centre forward which is a big plus as well.’
Cole, who won five Premier League titles at Manchester United, added: ‘When he gets those chances, he puts them in the back of the net.
‘He struggled a little bit at Milan for whatever reason this season. I’m not sure if his heart was really in it.
‘I think he was a little bit disappointed with the way he got treated by Juventus, to have to go on loan there.
‘I really do believe, playing under Sarri there, I think he will be good for them.’
