Chelsea And Tottenham Hotspur Appeal To Fans Prior To Carabao Cup Semifinal

Both Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea have issued an ultimatum to their fans ahead of the Carabao Cup clash at the Wembley stadium.

Both the London clubs have found themselves in an awkward position due to some unsporting behaviour from their fans. Chelsea banned a supporter for making Anti-gay chant during a fan while Spurs also took strict action by suspending a supporter following the banana throwing incident in the North London derby recently.

A number of players including Eden Hazard have appealed to the fans to maintain peace in the stands during the game. As much as 5000 supporters are expected to throng to the stadium during this much anticipated Carabao Cup clash.

Chelsea have made special arrangements with the help of Spurs and Metropolitan police if something untoward happens in this fixture.

A statement on the Chelsea website read : “Historically, a small minority has used the Tottenham fixture as licence to use anti-Semitic chants, noises and gestures, including the Y-word, offering the justification of opposition fans using terms as a form of identity.

“Our position is clear – this is no excuse for abusive chanting or behaviour and it will not be tolerated. We hope everybody realises that use of such language can cause huge offence to those around them.

“Please get behind the team, and show your support in the right way.”

Spurs also issue an official statement : “We hope that everyone attending on Tuesday enjoys the game and both sets of supporters focus their energies on getting behind their teams in a positive and respectful manner.”
