Chelsea And Tottenham Hotspur Appeal To Fans Prior To Carabao Cup Semifinal

Sarri believes he and Pochettino need to start winning trophies

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri believes that he and Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino must win a few trophies to leave their legacies behind at their respective clubs.

Sarri showered praise on his counterpart, saying that the Argentinian has done an excellent job to assemble such a formidable outfit.

Pochettino jas transformed Spurs into Champions League regulars, with the Lilywhites finishing in the top three for the past three seasons in the Premier League.

And his achievement can be termed as even more significant given that Spurs have not spent as much as their Premier League rivals, with the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City outspending the Lilywhites on a regular basis.

Both Pochettino and Sarri have tasted commendable success in their managerial careers but they have been at the receiving end of a lot of stick from the critics for lack of silverware.

“I agree because he [Pochettino] is a very good coach, one of the best at the moment, I agree he has to win a trophy, I hope not this [trophy],” Sarri said ahead of Chelsea’s EFL Cup semi-final first-leg meeting with Spurs on Tuesday.

“I think it is the same [for me]. Of course, Pochettino is at Tottenham from four years ago and I am here from six months and I think that here in the first season it is really very difficult for everybody.

“For Pochettino, four years, for [Jurgen] Klopp, four years [without a trophy]. It was really very hard in the first season also for [Manchester City manager Pep] Guardiola, so here it is really very difficult to build up a very good team. You need time.”
