Cesc Fabregas has called his time on English football.
One can hardly forget the vibrant, energetic teenager of Arsenal who took on the likes of John Terry head-on and single-handedly stopped Messi-Guardiola’s enigmatic Barcelona in a pulsating 2-2 draw.
Yes, this was the calm and composed Cesc in his young days; a leader. It was just the beginning of his colourful journey when he played for Arsenal’s first team at the ripe age of 16 before going on to take the Arsenal armband at the age of 21.
His celebrated move back home to Barcelona saw him win every possible club trophy in Europe and Spain. The Spaniard who had conquered the world by then with his national team as well, took on the challenge of playing for a Chelsea team; a new chapter.
Chelsea over the years were not the most fluent side like Arsenal or Barcelona but had a rather structured style of football. It seemed a seamless transition however, for the pass-master who helped the Blues to the league title in his very first season back.
He showed his greatest character and ability to adopt under Conte when he won his place back in the team in a defensive midfielder role to everyone’s surprise and led the team to another league title.
After 500 games now in English football, the magician is ready to move on the next chapter of his life; another new challenge. He played his last game for Chelsea, captaining the side, deservedly so.
Wherever, he goes next, he has conquered a million hearts not only for his football but also for the man he is. A genius leaves the English pitch.
