Chelsea leader Cesar Azpilicueta has opened up on how he expects himself to show the way for any new incoming signings at Stamford Bridge.

The Spaniard has been at the club for seven years now and is one of the longest serving players for the current Chelsea squad alongside Gary Cahill and Eden Hazard. The hard-working right back is the vice-captain at the club and expects to lead the way for any new player joining the Blue army.

“We shouldn’t compare with other generations,” he told the Daily Mail. “We are our own team with our own identity. The leaders in the team have to do it their own way. Things change, everything moves on, not just in football. I’ve shared a dressing room with JT, Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole, Didier Drogba and Petr Cech, and I learned so much from them.”

“But football has to move on. I have captained the team during the last few months after being made vice-captain behind Gary Cahill last season. But I must do it in my own way,” he said. “This is my seventh season at the club.”

With rumours of Cahill leaving the club in January doing the rounds, we could soon get to see become the club captain; a fine recognition for a player who has been an exemplary professional.
