Sky Sports Pundit Alan McInally believes Chelsea do not possess the firepower upfront to ensure a top 4 finish this season.

The Blues have gotten off to a fantastic start under new manager Maurizio Sarri this season but their problem remains crucial in the front line with both Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud failing to shine with a new headache coming this week after Morata was injured in the match against Vidi.

This has led McInally to believe that Chelsea need a new forward in January to keep up with the top sides in England.

“I think they have to (sign a striker),” McInally said. “If we think they’re not going to win the title then to finish in the top four they’re going to have to spend money on a striker. Obviously Morata is injured.”

“They’re so inconsistent Chelsea. You couldn’t guarantee they’re going to go to Brighton (on Sunday) and win, it’s one of them. They’ll be favourites to win the game but you don’t know what Chelsea is turning up. And if they want to finish in the top four, they’ll need to get someone who can put the ball in the net regularly.”

Let’s hope the Chelsea board think along the same lines and get in a world-class striker to Stamford Bridge.
