The player has fallen down the pecking order under Maurizio Sarri
Cesc Fabregas joined Chelsea from Barcelona on a five-year contract for a fee in the region of €33 million in 2014. He has been their mainstay in the midfield over the past past four seasons at the club.
The Spain International was pivotal in both the club’s Premier League victory in 2014-2015 season and 2016-2017 season. His vision and passing ranges were one of the important factors upon which the Premier League giants game play was based on.
But the 31 year old struggled for form last season. Despite managing an impressive 46 appearances for the club in all competitions, he was not a regular starter under former manager Antonio Conte.
He even missed out on a place in the Spain World squad this summer due to inconsistent performances last season and was even linked with an exit before the transfer deadline.
Former Arsenal star is yet to feature in any of the Premier League fixtures so far this season under new manager Maurizio Sarri after aggravating a knee injury in the Community Shield defeat to Manchester City.
However, he returned to full fitness ahead of Liverpool clash in the Carabao Cup last week and started the match as Blues won the match, with late strikes from Eden Hazard and Emerson.
But the midfielder faces fierce competition from N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic in the midfield as the trio have been excellent so far this season.
Spaniard’s future is still doubtful as he has entered the final year of his contract and Maurizio Sarri is yet to give him assurances over his long-term future. Though he is still keen to fight for his place.
Fabregas is working on contingency plans to find a new club in case Chelsea decide not to offer him a contract extension according to Goal.
