Maurizio Sarri admits Chelsea star is much better than he thought

The player has been very impressive this season

Chelsea resigned David Luiz from Paris Saint-Germain for £32 million on transfer deadline day in August 2016, after selling the defender to the Ligue 1 giants back in 2014.

The Brazilian quickly settled into the team and inspired the Blues to win the 2016-2017 Premier League title under Antonio Conte. He was one of the standout players that season and was named in the PFA Team of the year.

But after an excellent season, the 31 year old struggled for a regular run in the team last season, managing to play just 17 times in all competitions. Though he was injured for a period of time but there were reports that he had a fallout with former manager Antonio Conte.

The centre-back even missed out a place in the Brazil World Cup squad after an unconvincing campaign and it looked like his second spell at Stamford Bridge was all-but over as it was suggested he could leave Stamford Bridge in the summer

However, the Brazil International has found his way back into the starting XI as new manager Maurizio Sarri considers him and Antonio Rudiger as his first choice centre-backs. He has featured in all the Premier League fixtures so far this as the club are 2 points off the top of the table.

Sarri has admitted that is Luiz is much better than he thought and believes he was bit confused.

He stated: “I have to say he is better than I thought before, really better,

“As a player and as a man.

“I don’t know [what happened] before, but when I arrived here immediately I had the feeling he is a very good player for my way of football because he is a very technical centre-back. Then, I appreciate very much the man.

“He is direct. If he has to say something to the manager, to talk to me, he [comes] direct to me.

“He was a little confused [when I arrived] because two seasons ago he was a protagonist [in the team], and then [he went] six months without playing.

“I think he is very sweet, able to play my football for his characteristics. He is very technical, he is able to start very well the action from the defensive line, so he’s very suitable for me.”
