Chelsea joins the race for Serie A star

The player has made a big impact for the Italian side

Chelsea had a busy summer as they were looking to bolster their squad after an underwhelming campaign, despite winning the FA Cup back in May. Maurizio Sarri was appointed as the new manager after Antonio Conte was sacked.

The Italian has brought players like Jorginho from Napoli, Kepa from Athletic Bilbao and Mateo Kovacic on a season long loan from Real Madrid during the summer transfer window. The Blues also managed to keep hold of key players like Eden Hazard, Willian and N’Golo Kante, as they were heavily linked with exits.

The London Outfit have started the new campaign very strongly under the 59 year old, winning the first 5 Premier League fixtures in a row and drew the next two against West Ham United and Liverpool. They are currently off top of the table by 2 points.

After starting their Europa League campaign with a win against PAOK, the Premier League giants won their Carabao Cup opener too against Liverpool on Wednesday.

They have been tipped as one of the favourites to win the Premier League this term and the club are willing to bolster their squad in January to mount a genuine title charge.

Chelsea have joined the race for Cagliari star Nicolo Barella according to Express Sports.

The midfielder came through the academy ranks of the Italian side and made his league debut back in 2015. He was sent on loan to Como in Serie B in January 2016 hand has been a key player for the club since he returned from his loan spell.

The 21-year-old sensation already received his first senior Italy call-up and has made a big impact at his hometown club. This season, he netted one goal in six Serie A appearances, but above all made numerous crucial tackles and interceptions.

Sarri’s side have already sent scouts to Italy when Cagliari played Sampdoria with all eyes focused on Barella.

It has been suggested the Serie A giants will demand €40 million for their prized asset and clubs like Liverpool, Tottenham, Juventus, Manchester United and Everton are also interested in signing him.
