Chelsea star make huge Olivier Giroud claim

The Blues are currently on top of the table

Olivier Giroud joined Chelsea from Arsenal for an undisclosed fee, signing a 18 month contract during the January transfer window. Former manager Antonio Conte prioritized another striker as last summer signing Alvaro Morata struggled to make an impact.

The France International didn’t get much game time during his first few matches but he was eventually ahead of the Spanish striker in the pecking order. He impressed during the short spell, scoring 5 goals and assisting 1 in 18 appearances in all competitions.

The 31 year old helped the Blues to win the FA Cup final against Manchester United as they ended the season on a positive note. It was his 4th FA Cup title as he won 3 with the Gunners before leaving them.

He was selected in the France World Cup squad and helped lead Les Bleus to victory at the World Cup by acting as the focal point in Didier Deschamps’ attack. Though he didn’t score but the manager admitted he was important for the system to click.

The Striker was linked with an exit this summer, with few European clubs showed interest in him. However, he snubbed the chance to join them in order to stay at Stamford Bridge.

He was given his first start this season by Maurizio Sarri against Cardiff City on Saturday and was very impressive, assisting first two goals of Eden Hazard’s hat-trick. They won the game 4-1, winning all the 5 fixtures this season and are currently on top of the table.

Hazard has hailed Giroud as the world’s best target man and wants to play together with him more.

The Belgian said as quoted by Express Sports: ”The game was very tough.

“We know especially after the break it’s hard to play a good game because we are all a bit tired but we got an important three points today.

“We could play better, we should play better but we still scored four goals.

“Olivier Giroud is a target man – he is probably the best in the world – he is a pleasure to play with.

“After only five games we are doing good, we are confident, so we will see [about a title challenge].”
