Terry talks about Mourinho's clever tactic that improved Chelsea players

Jose Mourinho is one of the best football managers working today. He has managed 7 clubs during his career so far. Chelsea is the only club that Mourinho has managed twice. On both occasions, John Terry was in the team.

Terry recalled a training session where Mourinho used a threat to get the best out of him.

John Terry said, “He stopped the training session, came in, threw down his pad and said, ‘If you keep giving the ball away, I will go and buy someone for £50million’.

I am thinking: ‘I played every game for you last season! And now you’re trying to humiliate me!’. I didn’t understand why he was doing that, but my instinct was to run and give everything; flying into tackles, winning the ball. We made eye contact and he grinned. He knew exactly what he was doing – to get the best out of all of us.”

The former England captain also said that Mourinho used a similar method on Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba, Ashley Cole and Michael Ballack.

With Chelsea, Mourinho won three Premier League titles, an FA Cup, three League Cups and a Community Shield. He was named the Premier League manager of the Season in all the three seasons where he won the Premier League.
